Solar yard lightsSolar yard lights are very efficient devices which harness the power of daylight to provide lighting for the night. An important function of these lights is that of safety. They can be used to light up otherwise treacherous pathways and steps. In addition to that, there is no need to worry about these lights not working in the event of a power outage. Another advantage to solar yard lights is that most of them have sensors which detect the onset of both dusk and dawn. This feature causes them to automatically turn on or off, as appropriate. In this way, a homeowner may be assured that their yard will be lit up at night, even if he or she is away on vacation. The basic components of solar yard lights are the casing, a NiCd battery, a small solar panel, a light sensor, and an LED light. Common materials which make up the casing include plastic, copper, and stainless steel. Most of these lights use LEDs for illumination, but some use fluorescent bulbs. Many of these solar lights are self-contained and simply need to be placed in the yard where they will receive the plenty of sunlight. There are, however, sets of outdoor solar lights which are all connected to a single solar panel. These lights can be placed in shaded areas as long as the panel is placed in the sun.
